Meet Rosa: Your Dedicated Women's Health Physiotherapy Specialist

Hello! My name is Rosa, and I am deeply passionate about movement and exercise, particularly in the realm of pelvic health. Here’s a snapshot of me pushing through the final stretch of the Aberfeldy Half Iron Man. Staying active through running, cycling, swimming, and even gymnastics has been a cornerstone of my life, and I thrive on helping individuals regain their strength and confidence through tailored exercise programs.

My enthusiasm for the science of movement led me to achieve an MSc in Physiotherapy, graduating with distinction. Since then, I have specialized in Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Pelvic Health Physiotherapy, crucial areas for overall well-being. I gained invaluable experience as a senior MSK physiotherapist in the NHS in Manchester and now work as an Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist in Pelvic Health within NHS Lothian. At Health by Science, I leverage this extensive knowledge to support individuals on their health journeys.

Additionally, I have completed advanced courses from the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine and am active with a research team at Keele University focusing on pain science and activity pacing. I am eager to assist you in achieving optimal health and well-being, providing expert guidance and support every step of the way.

What Does Pelvic Girdle Pain Feel Like?

Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) postpartum can manifest in various ways, affecting each individual differently. Often, PGP is described as a persistent or intermittent pain in the pelvic region, which may radiate to the lower back, hips, groin, and thighs. Some women compare the sensation to a dull ache, while others experience sharp, shooting pains.

The discomfort is often exacerbated by specific movements, such as walking, climbing stairs, standing on one leg, or turning over in bed. In severe cases, even simple tasks like getting dressed or lifting light objects can become challenging. The pain may also be accompanied by a clicking or grinding sensation in the pelvic joints. It’s important to recognize these symptoms and seek appropriate care to manage and alleviate PGP effectively.
