Your initial ankle pain assessment
Your journey begins with a thorough investigation into how your ankle, foot, and lower limb are functioning as a unit. We move beyond the symptoms to understand exactly why you are experiencing discomfort.
During this session, we focus on:
- Comprehensive Biomechanical Analysis: Assessing your gait, joint mobility and strength patterns, often supported by our Movement MOT assessment.
- Clinical Diagnosis: A clear explanation of the structures involved and the nature of your injury.
- Bespoke Treatment Mapping: A collaborative discussion to set your recovery milestones and timelines.

Our 4-step ankle recovery process

Mobility restoration
Targeted movements to regain the full range of motion in the joint.

Ankle pain frequently asked questions
Do I need a scan (MRI or X-ray) before booking?
In the vast majority of cases, no. Our clinicians are trained to perform a comprehensive physical examination that is often more informative than a scan alone. If we suspect a fracture or a tear that requires imaging, we will refer you appropriately.
Why does my ankle pain feel worse in the evening?
This is often due to the cumulative load placed on the joint throughout the day. Inflammation can also “pool” when you finally sit down and rest, making the joint feel throbbing or stiff after a day of activity.
Do I need a GP referral to see an ankle specialist?
No, you can book directly with us as a private patient. A GP referral is not required to begin your treatment.
Can you help me return to running or football?
Absolutely. We specialise in “return to play” protocols. We don’t just get you walking; we use specific drills to ensure your ankle can handle the lateral movements and impact required for your chosen sport.
How many sessions will I need before I see results?
While every case is unique, most patients report a noticeable improvement in pain and confidence within 3 to 5 sessions. Your therapist will provide a more specific timeline during your initial assessment.
