Serious lifters. Objective benchmarks. (No flattery!)

Five lifts. One hour. We score your chin-ups, press, bench, squat and deadlift against your bodyweight and build a programme around the lift that’ll give you the biggest return.

For experienced lifters who’ve been training for years but have never been formally benchmarked against a clear, objective standard.

You have been lifting for years. You still do not know if your numbers are good.

You train consistently. You know how to move. You have spent enough time under a bar to know what a clean rep feels like. What you do not have is a clear answer to a simple question. Is your squat actually good for your bodyweight, or just good for your gym? Is your bench the reason your press has stalled, or is your press the reason your bench has stalled? The Strength Movement MOT answers both.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You lift regularly and your numbers have stopped moving.
  • You are chasing a specific target (a 2× bodyweight squat, a bodyweight overhead press, your first weighted chin-up) and cannot tell why you have stalled.
  • You know one lift is holding the rest back but you cannot say which.
  • You are heading into a pre-season, a meet prep, or a training block and want a baseline before you start.
  • You have trained for years without ever being formally benchmarked against a clear standard.
  • You want a fresh, expert pair of eyes on work you are already putting in.

That’s exactly what the Strength Movement MOT is here for.

What you get: Test. Score. Train.

Test

Five coached barbell lifts in one hour: chin-ups, military press, bench press, back squat, deadlift. Clean top sets, not max-out attempts.

Score

Each lift is scored on Levels 6 to 15 using your estimated 1RM divided by your bodyweight. You leave knowing exactly where each pattern sits.

Train

A personalised follow-up programme in Everfit, built around the lift that will give you the biggest return. It slots into what you are already doing, rather than replacing it.

Biomechanical squat assessment for semi-private personal training Edinburgh to ensure movement efficiency in our Leith gym.

What you get for £100

In your 60-minute session: A one-to-one coached assessment in Lab 1 or Lab 2. We test five barbell lifts (chin-ups, military press, bench press, back squat, deadlift), score each on Levels 6 to 15, talk through what is limiting you, and flag anything that needs Physiotherapy input.

The day after: A written strength profile with your Levels, your estimated 1RMs in kilos, and a personalised follow-up programme delivered via Everfit. Built around raising your lowest lift.

If something hurts: Free access to an online Physiotherapy assessment, so you start in the right place.

Finally understood what was wrong

The Movement MOT highlighted issues with my form that I hadn’t spotted myself. I left with a clear, targeted plan to improve strength, posture and prevent re-injury. Practical, thorough and incredibly helpful.

Clear diagnosis and action plan

I had a great experience with the MOT and the online physio. Both Stuart and Kubo were incredibly supportive, patient, and clear in their guidance. I would highly recommend it to anyone who feels a bit lost when starting their exercise journey and is looking for a structured, confidence-building approach. It really helped me gain clarity and feel more secure about where to begin.

What we test, and why it matters

These five lifts cover every major strength pattern: vertical pull, vertical push, horizontal push, knee-dominant lower, hip-dominant lower. Get them scored and you know exactly where your strength sits. Miss one, and you are guessing which lift is holding the rest back.

Chin-Ups (added weight)

Your vertical pull. Tested with a top set of weighted chin-ups and scored as added weight divided by bodyweight. A Level 10 is a solid intermediate benchmark. A Level 15 is +0.50× bodyweight loaded.

Military Press

Your vertical push. Strict standing press, no leg drive. Scored as estimated 1RM divided by bodyweight. A bodyweight overhead press is Level 15 territory.

Bench Press

Your horizontal push. Paused bench, full range. Scored on 1RM to bodyweight. Most experienced lifters sit between Level 8 and Level 12.

Back Squat

Your knee-dominant lower body. High-bar, clean depth. A 2× bodyweight back squat is Level 15. A 1.11× squat is Level 10.

Deadlift

Your hip-dominant lower body. Conventional, locked out. A 2.5× bodyweight deadlift is Level 15 and represents nationally competitive numbers for an untested natural lifter.

Measured on Levels 6 to 15

Each lift is scored on a single scale from 6 to 15. The score is your estimated 1RM divided by your bodyweight, so the scale is fair across bodyweights. A heavier lifter has to move more weight to hit the same Level as a lighter one.

Level 6 is a competent intermediate. Most people who come in sit between Level 8 and Level 12. Level 15 represents nationally competitive numbers for an untested natural lifter, for example a 2× bodyweight back squat or a 2.5× bodyweight deadlift.

The headline number is not the point. The gap between your strongest lift and your weakest is. That gap tells us exactly where your next training block should be focused.

Estimated 1RM is calculated from a top set for reps using the Epley formula: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30). Safer than a true one-rep max, accurate enough to train from.

This Is for You If…

You have trained consistently with barbells for at least 12 months and know your way around the five main lifts. You lift regularly and your progress has flattened. You are chasing a specific strength number and want objective benchmarks, not flattery.  You are heading into a training block or pre-season and want a baseline before you start. You want a fresh expert pair of eyes on work you are already putting in. You are time-poor and need a plan that fits around real life, not one that takes it over.

This NOT for You If…

You are new to lifting and still learning the basic patterns. Book the standard Movement MOT instead. You are currently in pain or managing an injury. Book a Physiotherapy appointment first. You want a generic fitness test or body composition scan.
