Next Best You
A new Obstacle Course Race for people with mental and physical impairments.
Next event on 7th July
On July 7th Health by Science are running their second indoor obstacle course race (OCR) specifically for people recovering from physical and mental impairments. This will introduce Race Running and Obstacle Course Races for the disabled population of Scotland, making it the first country to do so. The benefits of physical activity and social inclusion are essential for everyone, especially those with physical or mental impairments.
Obstacle Course Racing (or OCR) has been billed as ‘The Current Fastest Growing Sport in the World’ and it’s easy to see why, with the explosion onto social media by the likes of Tough Mudder and Spartan Race. There are 13 major organisers of obstacle course races in Scotland, none of which cater to disabled or disadvantaged populations, until now.
Taking part in Obstacle Course Races can have a wide range of positive mental and physical attributes for attendees. However, there are currently no Obstacle Course Races which are accessible or directly tailored to disabled and disadvantaged populations.

The Next Best You Obstacle Course Race consists of 12 stages which become progressively harder to achieve. The focus is on challenging limiting beliefs around rehab potential and to provide a safe and welcoming environment for people with mental and physical impairments to take part in a race.
The key focus will be on the fact that the participants are not racing with each other but are competing against themselves. The name Next Best You signifies the philosophy of continuous small improvements leading to large changes over the longer term. Therefore if one individual was only able to complete up to stage 4 then this would give them a focus for their training for the next time they compete in the event.
Each participant will receive a medal and a t-shirt to help acknowledge and celebrate their participation. We would like to run the events quarterly and create a model which could then be franchised across Scotland, the UK and eventually the globe. The focus of the first event is to create a low cost and low-risk small-scale test of the idea. If you or someone you know is interested in taking part or would like more information then contact us via the form below.
